New Displays for 2012 Feature Waynesville's Early Days
198 years ago, Daniel and Ann (Gause) Burnet and their two young children, ages six and seven months, made a grueling trip from Redstone, Pennsylvania to Waynesville, Ohio. It took the Burnet’s two months and three weeks, traveling over land by cart and on a log raft down the Ohio River (today, we could make that trip in about four and a half hours). 53 members and descendents of the Burnet family are glad the 1814 trip succeeded. Their names are stitched into a large quilt hand-stitched in the early 1800s and presently on display at the Museum at the Friends Home. This quilt and several like it at the Museum evoke memories of early life in our area, as does a new Pioneer Room exhibit featuring a log cabin and barn exquisitely hand-crafted by a local resident. Come by on Wednesday or Saturday afternoon and have a look at these and other fascinating exhibits.
