Service Description

Have you ever wondered what lingerie Victorian ladies wore under all those clothes? How did they manage to answer the call of nature? Why did they wear all those clothes, anyway? And how did they not die of heat stroke? Elizabeth will conduct a live demonstration of 19th-century dressing and answer those questions and more. She will explain how undergarments have evolved from the Victorian Era to the present day, tracing the progress of each garment through the Industrial Revolution, the 1840s, the 1920s, and the Modern Age. Each garment, drawn from the Museum at the Friends Home or Elizabeth’s personal collection, will be accompanied by a discussion of its purpose, function, and the technological developments that made it possible. Bring your curiosity!
